THARU VILLAGE TOURS

The Tharu, the indigenous people of Chitwan, have the dubious privilege of serving as an additional "Attraction" alongside the tiger and the rhinos. A guided walk through the Tharu village along the road to the park boundary covers the culture, history and religion of the people. A more authentic introduction to Tharu culture is the visit to the village and home stay at Madi and Nawalparasi. The Socio-economic organization, religion, family ties and rites of passage, villages and houses, clothing and jewelers, art and craft, fishing, food, festivals and dances and indigenous knowledge of an Old aged Tharu are the major attraction. Tharu Stick Dance exuberantly invite participation. Dance troupes perform regularly every evening at Sauraha.
